...KYIV CLASSIC ORCHESTRA
The Medics Sang, and the Musicians Healed

An unusual concert took place in Kyiv on September 3: doctors sang together with a real symphony orchestra. Why so? Because music heals the soul, while doctors heal the body. This is the opinion of Maestro Herman Makarenko, the main hero of this event. On his initiative, the Kyiv-Classic Symphony Orchestra together with the soloists of the hospital played this incredibly emotionally sublime concert on the green lawn of the National Military Medical Clinical Center "Main Military Clinical Hospital"

When doctor Oksana Beloziorova, a lieutenant colonel of the medical service, and in fact a fragile girl, sang "Chornobrivtsi", the audience froze, it was so inspiring. And when conductor Herman Makarenko was put on a medical overall, the situation became quite touching. Needless to say, both the performers and the audience shed tears during the concert. This time, in fact, doctors are always at the forefront, it is very noticeable during a pandemic. And military doctors and even more so heroically save the lives of our soldiers, for which they are highly respected. That is why the musicians decided to start a large international project of gratitude to the medical worker around the world with a chamber concert for military doctors.

The soloists Oksana Belozyorova, nurse Alla Pavlyukova and the adviser to the head of the Gender Center Olga Dobrovolska togather with the Kyiv-Classic Symphony Orchestra conducted by the People's Artist of Ukraine, UNESCO Peace Artist Herman Makarenko performed for the audience.

"It is symbolic that we are starting a big international project of gratitude to the medical worker around the world who are bravely facing such global challenges as the COVID-19 pandemic, with a concert for Ukrainian military medics. After all, military doctors are always at the forefront of the fight against the most difficult threats, defending the lives of our military, and we strive to express solidarity, our respect and gratitude in the language of music", said Maestro Herman Makarenko.

Among the audience were doctors, nurses and patients of the military hospital. Major General of the Medical Service Anatoliy Kazmirchuk, Head of the Main Military Clinical Hospital, also attended the event.

On September 16, the National Opera of Ukraine will host a gala concert of the international project "Musical gratitude to medical workers (with the support of WHO and UNESCO)", which will bring together composers and performers from France, Turkey, Ukraine and China. The whole auditorium of the Opera will be filled with Ukrainian doctors. The audience will hear several premieres of Ukrainian and foreign composers written especially for the project. UNESCO Artists for Peace from many countries will take part in the concert.

The author and performer of the song "Appreciation", written for this project, Kateryna Vovchuk said: "I myself experienced the loss of loved ones through COVID-19, and it was important for me to write about humanity, about people who sacrifice themselves and about how to see the meaning in these difficult times".

And it really is about meanings, about important things, about global challenges.

"I am glad that we have joined the organization of this holiday for medical workers, an evening of classical music - they deserve it. With the concert, we express our gratitude to all doctors in Ukraine and in the world", says Nadezhda Ratke, the founder of the IOSJ Ukraine foundation, which has become one of the partners in the project of gratitude to medical workers.

The idea was supported by the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation, WHO and UNESCO, since solidarity with the medical workers around the world, support for their heroic labor at times at the limit of human capabilities is a very important moment of truth for society. Among the partners of the event are the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Directorate-General for Rendering Services to Diplomatic Missions (GDIP), the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, the Association of Chief Physicians of Ukraine, the Honorary Council of the Order of St. Panteleimon, the International Organization for Social Justice, AMC Media. The author of the project Maestro Makarenko hopes that such a global synergy of musicians and vocalists, multi-genre music program, where along with classical and jazz, folk and modern compositions will promote cultural diversity, spread and develop intercultural dialogue, ideas of humanism.

Last year, Ukrainian musicians also initiated the global project "Art Against a Pandemic", which was supported by UNESCO as a manifestation of international solidarity. The author of the initiative was Maestro Herman Makarenko, who was joined by artists from France, Japan, Turkey, South Korea, Georgia and other countries.

A wonderful tradition. To be continued.
